The international paper, tissue, packaging and hygiene industries are coming together in London as Paper & Tissue Show London makes its UK debut at ExCeL London on 11–12 November 2026, alongside the Packaging & Recycle Show London and Hygiene & Nonwoven Show London.

Valmet will provide extensive modernization services for the recovery boiler and evaporation plant at Södra Mönsterås pulp mill in Sweden. The delivery supports the mill's annual maintenance program and improves operational reliability, safety, and long-term performance while reducing the risk of unplanned downtime.

LatamPaper will return to Mexico City on June 9–10, 2027, bringing together Latin American papermakers and international technology suppliers.

Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is starting change negotiations concerning potential temporary lay-offs at its Joutseno pulp mill. The negotiations will involve the entire personnel of the mill, approximately 160 people in total.

Suzano announced earlier this week the acquisition of a 10 percent stake in Imetame Logística Porto through an agreement with the Imetame Group. The project, currently under construction in Brazil’s Espírito Santo state, has been designed to include five specialized port terminals. The deal includes the transfer of strategically-located land owned by Suzano that will be used to support development of the port project, without affecting the operational or economic performance at Suzano’s nearby Aracruz unit.

Recovery boilers are among the most important assets in a pulp mill, requiring continuous maintenance, timely upgrades and expert lifecycle support to ensure safe and reliable operation over decades of service. At Södra Cell Mörrum in Sweden, Valmet recently replaced a worn bottom furnace section during a scheduled annual shutdown, helping the mill maintain long-term recovery boiler reliability while enhancing corrosion resistance in a critical area of the furnace.

A new deadline has been granted to continue pulp production operations at the Fibre Excellence Saint-Gaudens plant in Southern France. According to Agence France-Presse reports quoted by La Tribune and L'Usine Nouvelle, the Toulouse Commercial Court granted additional time on August 24 to allow the takeover bid submitted that day to be refined and improved by September 3. The court will then review the offer five days later, on September 8.

An annual maintenance shutdown will take place at Metsä Group's Äänekoski bioproduct mill at the end of August and the beginning of September. The mill's production shutdown will begin department by department on Friday morning, August 28, 2026.

Construction of a new paper mill to produce tissue base paper for 3- and 4-ply toilet paper rolls made from virgin pulp is scheduled to begin in autumn 2027.

The Peruvian branch of the tissue producer Softys has won the Value Chains category at the Empresa con Gestión Sostenible (EGS) 2025 awards, an initiative of Perú Sostenible that evaluates companies' environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance to strengthen competitiveness and recognise sustainability achievements. The distinction was based on a comprehensive assessment, grounded in internationally recognised standards and frameworks, of how companies embed these principles into their business decisions and practices.

Valmet has appointed Max Luedtke as Executive Vice President, Pulp, Energy and Circularity business area and a member of Valmet’s Executive Leadership Team. He will start in his position on September 1, 2026, and will be based in Tikkurila, Vantaa, Finland.

Hygiene and health company Essity has entered into an agreement to acquire Kenvue’s feminine care business in Brazil, including the market-leading brands Carefree, Sempre Livre and o.b. The purchase price amounts to USD 284m (approximately SEK 2.7bn) on a cash and debt-free basis. The acquisition strengthens Essity’s position as a market leader in feminine care in Latin America.

Mercer Stendal, a subsidiary of Mercer International Inc., is converting the fuel supply for the lime kiln at the Arneburg pulp mill in Germany. With a total budget of 34.6 million euros, the lime kiln, which is currently operated with natural gas, will be converted to biomass firing.
