Metsä Group starts up its major investment in Mariestad - Scandinavian tissue supply strengthens

Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, has started full-scale production at its expanded and modernised tissue paper mill in Mariestad, Sweden. The €370 million investment doubles the mill’s annual tissue paper capacity to 145,000 tonnes, significantly strengthening the local supply of high-quality tissues, like Lambi, Serla, and Katrin products for both consumers and professional customers across Scandinavia.

Hygiene and health company Essity has entered into an agreement to acquire Edgewell Personal Care’s feminine care business, including the brands Carefree, Stayfree and o.b. in North America and Playtex globally. The purchase price for the assets amounts to USD 340m (approximately SEK 3.2bn) on a cash and debt-free basis. The acquisition supports Essity’s strategy to focus on high margin categories and to grow market positions in the US, the world’s largest hygiene market.
